What are Natural and Organic Products?

What are Natural Products?

You have always heard others talking about others natural products and their benefits. Have you ever wondered what are natural products? Why are some products called natural while others are not? Well mentioned below are answers to some of those questions.

To simply define, a natural product is a substance which is produced from any living organism that is found in nature.

Natural products can also be prepared by chemical synthesis. The term natural product has been extended for commercial purposes to refer to cosmetics, dietary supplements, and foods produced from natural sources without added artificial ingredients, etc.

The source of Natural products includes a large and diverse group of substances from a variety of sources including marine organisms, bacteria, fungi, fruits, vegetables and plants. The term encompasses complex extracts from these producers, but also the isolated compounds derived from those extracts. It also includes vitamins, minerals and probiotics hence comes with a whole range of benefits.

Today natural products are widely used by chemists around the world for multiple applications starting from medicines to cosmetics.

What are Organic Products?

To start with don’t confuse Natural products with Organic Products. Not all Natural products are organic.

To simply state, an organic product is a product that is grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones.

So commercially when we refer to cosmetics it means that the ingredients used in the manufacturing of these products comes from organic sources.
